Yesterday

Time is so baffling. I mean we think we know it and then it blows us away. Kind of like space. We all really think that we know it but... When it comes to really knowing, both time and space just kick our collective... Something.

I mean yesterday, I was fixing toys. In kindergarten. They thought that I was a miracle. A healer. A doctor. Healing their dolls. I mean I was smart and convincing but I never pulled one over on them. No. Because I believe in something.

God? I can't answer that as surely as I think that God couldn't. Did Einstein believe in God? Maybe that's an obvious answer. How about Oppenheimer? A bit more difficult. Planck? Now we're talking...

My father grew up during a time that I can't even understand. So did my Mother.

Hippies at Woodstock representing human consciousness through music. The revolution. The righteous after all would rule the world.

The meek. Those who'd rise up to claim it. Who invented that?

No meek ones came. They'd all ended. They're kind of predictable that way because meek people never conflict. It's absolute with them.

We're present after all. Like attendance in class. Oh! I can't get this diary!

Alicia leans her head down on the page.

Heylyn sees her from the corner of the room.

It's a classroom after all. They're all free.

So, You Think You Know The Inspiration For The Witch And The Butterfly Dragon...

If that title doesn't get your attention then I don't know what will.

I'm a comic book fan in case you don't know. I've been as such since my early childhood. Part of a multicultural revolution a bit before my time (Woodstock,  Trudeau, United Nations, Comic Books, Star Wars). Get the picture? I've never been in a time where heroes weren't represented in just about every culture.

Some of the action superhero action figures I had from the order I had them thanks to my parents:

Superman (x5 over my life)
Spiderman (x5 over my life)
Hulk (x4  over my life)
Batman
Iron Man (x3 over my life)
Falcon (x2 over my life)
Thing (x1 over my life)

My friends and I were avid gamers. Video games hadn't really matured because most computers were card based (punch cards I mean) or video games just didn't exist.

Women superhero figures just did not exist.

That may sound a bit sexist but I was one of the fortunate guys to live around a generation of Women who were really heroes. Hence heroes of our own referring to Women heroes of my time who stood beside, not behind the male heroes.

I lived in a time where roleplaying games (Dungeons and Dragons, Marvel Heroes were the two main role playing games we'd play) were the means of expression of this idea. However! While we were playing pen and paper and pythagorian dice based games, we knew real life Women who were actually living what we were playing!

Miranda was one such Woman, who is amongst the inspirations for the real life Butterfly Dragon. She's a real life mixed martial artist ahead of her time and rightly beside Tamela an inspiration for all Women. Miranda has been as such for as long as I've been taller than 4 feet. I mean literally that she's a real life superhero much like Tamela Hutchinson and Kelly Hu. While we were playing role playing games, they were Women who were really out there doing what we were imagining.

Between them (Miranda, Tamela, Katrina and a plethora of other Women that really did it! They became superheroes!). My Mother was a costume designer as a hobby and seamstress, designing outfits for her stage performances (she's a Juno nominated vocalist) eventually designing outfits for multicultural visual artists. Between Miranda, Tamela, Katrina, Kelly Hu and my Mother, and the Woman of my dreams (Yi Chen), the Butterfly Dragon emerged.

So for superheroes, my friends and I played via pen and paper for years before the onset of computer games. Pen and paper games allow for a lot of great characterization and interaction not to mention one of the greatest arts: thespian arts.

When I see the Marvel and DC universe emerge before my eyes as envisioned by their creators, I am absolutely amazed and inspired. I mean we saw and played heroes of incredible proportions in ways few could imagine long before they became manifest on the big screens.

It is incredible to be inspired by such heroes now whether through pen and paper, video games or a real dojo where heroes are inspired constantly.

If you are a parent raising children. I would highly suggest martial arts training through an official Sensai. The Women that I've known in my life have literally become such heroes of training etching a path for the humble to follow to become the enlightened and heroic.

By the way, heroes of role playing like Gary Gygax are inspirations etching paths in ways that few of us (Women and Men) have ever dreams despite our culture. They've broken down cultural doors that few of us even knew existed.

Anthony Mackie is an amazing Falcon by the way just as had Toby Macguire been the most amazing Spiderman. Toby until this day has been the Spiderman I'd seen in the comics. Sam Raimi took Stan's vision from it's innocence into a mature graphic interpretation of the web head. I so wish that Sam's Spiderman had visited the Secret Wars but maybe that will occur under Marvel's universe. Andrew Garfield evolved Spiderman into the Tod Rungdren penned Spidey that we'd all known in the post Spawn era.

Secret Wars? I mean Secret Wars the original. You don't know about Secret Wars? The Beyonder? The real and I mean real origin of Spiderman's black suit?

So thanks to all those thespians and actors performing our childhood with such incredible imagination and performance.

That's what makes it an art.

Thanks Mir, Tam, Kat and Rita (my Mom!) for making Women into heroes!

Brian Joseph Johns

PS: If Scott and Rob and I have to live through this again, I'd suggest following Lucas's vision because he had it right. Listening to Disney because they are concerned with reminding us all that we're all heroes of every background. We're all a part of this wonderful and conflicting world.

Most of all. Heroes come in all shapes and sizes. Ancient history has reminded us of this again and again.

Thank you Disney and the great thespians that have realized the vision.

I'll bet that they'd make great! role players in a role playing game like Dungeons and Dragons or Marvel Heroes.

PPS: Buzz, Miles, Pete, Darryl Olsen (the best DM I've ever heard of), Eric Weisengruber (the best DM next to Pete Borav and Miles Hutcheson that I've ever played). Steven Sampson, Darrell Haines and many others of epic creativity.

Why then does the Aerth Mother of A Lady`s Prerogative have that look in her eyes?

I hope that Disney and other media conglomerates look into what it is that makes such great story tellers as my friends. They'd realize that I grew up in a time and place where we could all be heroes and inspirations. Women and Men of all origins and cultures alike.

If they look at my stories, well that's a bonus but not required.

After all, I'm a product of great family and friends. :-)

The Butterfly Dragon is a Mandarin Chinese female character who has emigrated with her family from China at a young age. She symbolically is the concept piece behind the motif of the books which essentially is about East meeting West. Her family name in the book is Ai Yuanlin Ying. Her Father gives her and her family a new name upon their arrival in North America of Heylyn Yates in order to avoid stigmas that might affect her development in her new home.

Chances are in person you'd never hear me talking like this. I'm a much harder character than I etch onto the digital or paper page, and very different than the person I started out as but suffice it to say that this is the real me. Unchilled and unarmored and way different than the person I have to be in my daily struggles. Most of those struggles are against people who'd much rather paint me in a different light.

PS: There have been a lot of attempts to steal my identity or my creative works by impersonating my computer and some of my online accounts from other computers. In other words, someone operating under one of my online accounts but using that account from another computer other than the two that I own. Mostly so far that I have seen this has occurred with some of my gaming related accounts (possibly my Steam account and perhaps one or two other accounts). So no official communication has been made by any identity thieves through my social media accounts as far as I can tell but they've been trying to impersonate my computer activity from other computers. In my city I live in 200 Sherbourne Street in apartment 701 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. All of my computer activity should only originate from within that place and from one of two computers in that apartment. I operate both via a VNC client and server within my residence.

Recently one of the reasons that I have not posted any new material for The Butterfly Dragon or A Lady's Prerogative was to investigate these occurrences which have seemingly been used in effort to steal some of my intellectual and creative properties. I don't mean like a VPN (which I've used maybe three or four times myself), but rather someone purposely trying to make it seem like that accounts associated with my computers and identity were coming from somewhere and someone else in another location other than my living space in Toronto.

The first Butterfly Dragon book was actually published online as I wrote it from August of 2012 on http://poetryandfiction.blogspot.ca. There has been many attempts by a cult to steal it and even to associate it with other cultures (to steal it away from its relation Chinese culture).

Another Butterfly Dragon?

Brian Joseph Johns
I did some searching recently for The Butterfly Dragon on the web. I'd done it initially when I'd first published the first story and the accompanying children's story in late 2012. My search at that time came up with nothing of the same name or content so I went ahead with the name.

Besides that, it was already decidedly an Oriental themed fable and myth, one which I stand in front and defend with all of my heart.

Recently while setting up Cortana (Microsoft's built in assistant in Windows 10) with a Kinect for Windows, I came across a book called Agnes and the Butterfly Dragon Paperback dated Oct 10 2012.

This was about a month or two after I'd published mine by the way and around the same time I'd published the accompanying children's book The Field, The Butterflies And The Dragon.

I'd published under my blog Poetry And Fiction initially, during the summer of 2012 and continued to work on it while it was published on that blog eventually giving it a home of it's own here early in the New Year of 2013. I'd also noticed recently an animation by Susan Yue, called The Butterfly Dragon which was for her graduate's portfolio at UNSWTV. Congratulations to both ladies on their accomplishments and successes with their creations and I sincerely wish them both well however I must explain some things that are not connected with either of these inventive Women.

I certainly did not see this book at the time of my writing The Butterfly Dragon (which at that time was just called Heroes Of Our Own with the heroic character Ai Yuanlin Ying being the Butterfly Dragon). In essence it was an ode to a prior girlfriend and some influential Women (and Men) in my life as was A Lady's Prerogative. One thing I'd certainly had experienced up until that point was clues that I was being eavesdropped illegally, as people in my community would often drop hints that they knew what I was writing by speaking specific details related to the unpublished portions of the story. In other words text I'd not published on the web but had written in a word processor to go over it before publishing it. I don't want to say that the author Nalin DaSilva was connected to anyone preying upon my computer in this regard, but certainly someone has been and likely still is. In fact if I held any animosity towards her for her book, I'd not have published or advertised her book.

I'd even reported the activity to the RCMP (Canada's famed Federal Police often referred to as Mounties). I support the Mounties work keeping Canada safe and even working abroad training Police Officers in Afghanistan and providing their expertise to our partners abroad. They sent me a reply and told me that they would review the data and intel I'd given them with regard to such activity, though I'd never heard from them again beyond receiving a written letter thanking me for the information. A week later the very same letter was stolen from my person just before I was about to photocopy it for my records. Bizarre coincidences.

Locally I'd also received a lot of flack and abuse from "stalkers" in the community including some nasty neighbors as well (who still seem to abuse me until this day). It seems that many people were angry with my choice to make the main character from my book the Butterfly Dragon a Chinese person. I'd even been harassed about contacting the Federal Police by members of the community, indicating to me that whomever was observing my computer activity had observed me contacting them as well and had shared that information locally in my community. It's almost as if someone had been live streaming the activities from my computer and sharing that information with people nearby. A gross violation seeing as I don't use my computer for anything of a criminal nature, and Police certainly don't leak private information into communities about the intel they'd gained or the creative properties obtained during surveillance of computer. So it definitely was not law enforcement behind this effort. It was something else.

The stalking became a constant thing including day and night abuse from neighbors and people in the neighborhood alike, which prompted me to start using my blog Poetry And Fiction to post information about what was going on in that regard. Initially I had create Poetry And Fiction as a thank you blog for many of the people that had inspired me. Most of what I'd post on it showcased other people's accomplishments that had inspired me at some point in time. The blog suffered a lot as a result of the abuse from such people, perhaps even proving to be character assassination in a sense. I've recently been trying to recover the blog and get it back on track again using a dedicated blog to post my concerns about such stalker and hate groups that conduct such abuse on another venue.

So despite what has happened, I am still very much dedicated to The Butterfly Dragon and A Lady's Prerogative, though I will never do A Lady's Prerogative if The Butterfly Dragon is sabotaged or ruined by such a group of abusive persons because in all honesty, my real life love interest is a Mandarin Chinese lady and one of the sole inspirations for the story (alongside a childhood friend and some other inspirational Women).

One of my concerns is when is such illegal surveillance going to be investigated officially because as I've said, it seems to be used for the purposes locally of stealing what others accomplish on their computer or even to abuse someone for what you do on your computer. I'm certainly not a member of any ideology or faith that would conduct themselves in such a way, and certainly I'd take legal action if someone was doing so and I found out. How is one to be certain that someone isn't just taking what I do, and claiming it as their own if they can spy on what I do as I do it? How do I know they're not keylogging my computer and taking what I write and selling it in a bookstore someone else under a different name? All of what I do is done from my meek bachelor apartment at 200 Sherbourne Street in apartment 701 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada in Regent Park. Just a bit south of Dundas Street on the west side of Sherbourne. I'm not making a killing doing it. It's an investment and a labor of love that I hope will grow wings some day and really fly.

I do nothing of that sort to anyone else and certainly not worth abusing and stalking anyone for unless you have something against a guy that wants to improve his Chinese and his massage skills here and here

I use my computer as well to admire beauty and creativity while keeping up with the world of fashion (a big part of the plot in The Butterfly Dragon) here seeing as The Butterfly Dragon is a fashion designer by day and a superhero by night along side coworker/model Monique Defleur (The Eclipse) and scientific genius Alicia Westin (Night Style) as seen here:

Ai Yuanlin Ying
aka Heylyn Yates aka The Butterfly Dragon.

A young girl who emigrated from China to North America with her parents at the young age of two. Maintaining ties with her history, she learns the secrets of an ancient tradition of protectors who use the style of the Butterfly Dragon and whom are protected by a mysterious and mystical otherworldly presence.

Alicia Westin
aka Night Style.

Here she pays homage to Rodin and her life as a scientific genius who designs a wonder formula with the potential to cure a plethora of degenerative diseases including Cancer.

Monique Defleur looking very alluring in full costume as The (Strawberry) Eclipse

Give her a break. She loves strawberries.

These images by the way are from my private collection and make up some of the artwork that adorns my computer desktops. I use two for what I do. One as a music workstation and a fulltime scientific research platform using Boinc. The other is my writing and design computer and the one I use most often. I also run a Raspberry Pi compatible ODROID which runs 24/7 running a subset of the Boinc client as well for scientific research.

I've been holding off on writing anything new for The Lost And The Found until this I'm able to deal with this problem of eavesdropping and how it's being misused. Chances are I wont continue until that problem is solved and if I do, I'll be taking many precautions including streaming my writing as I write on Twitch, so that I have witnesses to my writing it at that time. Kind of like fighting fire with fire? I'd like to see a legal solution to this problem, especially that involves exposure and arrests. I imagine that might be a large operation however but not impossible. Maybe some superheroes could help? I'm sure that the Butterfly Dragon would be up to it.

Don't think me paranoid either as anyone would be if their activities were subject to such scrutiny and their privacy breached in such a way only to find that their creative properties and development had been shared into their community without their permission or even sold under another name by someone else. I don't have the finances for protecting myself against such theft. Does that mean that I have no rights in that regard? Food for thought.

Indefinitely postponed...

This is just a notice that The Butterfly Dragon re-release will be indefinitely postponed thanks to a lot of setbacks related to social abuse in my community and place of residence by a blood centric racist cult that are essentially against me being in a relationship with someone Mandarin Chinese.

That's not your problem and I apologize to my readers for the setback and delay.

Just so you know that I'm pulling my weight with regard to Women's rights and their link with The Butterfly Dragon and A Lady's Prerogative, here's a copy two letters I received from the Office Of The Prime Minister of Canada with regard to the issues of rights that I had written to them numerous times about.

So here is the reply from the Office Of The Right Honourable Justin Trudeau

Dear Mr. Johns:

On behalf of the Right Honourable Justin Trudeau, I would like to acknowledge receipt of your correspondence regarding the problem of violence against women.

As your comments will be of interest to the Honourable Carolyn Bennett, Minister of Indigenous and Northern Affairs, and the Honourable Patricia A. Hajdu, Minister of Status of Women, I have taken the liberty of

forwarding your e-mail to the their attention. I am certain that the Ministers will wish to give your concerns every consideration.

Thank you for writing to the Prime Minister.

Dear Prime Minister Trudeau,

I am sending you a letter which I sent to former Prime Minister Stephen Harper on the 28th of November in 2012. The letter that I sent follows:

I am a citizen whose concern for the fair treatment of Aboriginal women is as important as the treatment of all women.

We as a nation do not tolerate violence against and the exploitation of women, yet why is this not the case for Aboriginal women within Canada. With cases like that of Robert Pickton and numerous disappearances and deaths of Aboriginal women within cities around the country, why is this allowed to continue? There is no justifiable reason for us to ignore the plight of any women within our nation yet it is allowed to go on

without someone saying 'this isn't right'. We cannot allow ourselves to be lulled into thinking that if we see it happening around us that it must be ok.

We as the people of Canada serve as your eyes and ears in terms of your navigation through the often perilous challenges for our country. If we are your senses then why ignore requests from us, and agencies like Amnesty

International with regard to this issue. Please show the mothers and daughters of the members of our Aboriginal community that we as a nation of many different and valued people care for their well being and welcome them as well as the Aboriginal peoples as likely as they welcome us, for despite our differences, we all are really one.

To allow them harm is to harm ourselves.

I received a direct and formal reply from the office of the Prime Minister with regard to the above request and was able to see some action and results in this regard especially with investigations that sought to reduce victimization of Women who'd been lured into prostitution often by those who'd employ the use of crack cocaine or another addictive drug as the motivating factor in retaining those Women for such purposes. They would literally repeat their service hiring themselves out for small amounts for the concern of making sure they could afford their drug habit. Many of the dealers responsible for this activity were and are aware of this. These

are people who really sought to and did do these things to Women. It is one thing for Women to consensually play with their lover or partner in whatever way they as a couple choose, so long as there is consent. Its quite another for a Woman to be lured into selling themselves in order to pay for a drug habit that they've often been led to by the very person who is selling them for sexual purposes. When Women have been involved in such activities and with someone who wants that to remain quiet that creates motive for the activities of someone who might seek to snuff their lives out to keep them quiet. These are important considerations for this

issue and should be tabled as there have recently been cases that involve such activities as I've described here.

I would like to expand upon that request and ask of you that such a mandate be pursued as did the prior occupant of your office to include all Women whom fall victim to such acts and tragedy as I am certain you are taking steps to accomplish. There needs to be a tracking mechanism that can help investigators follow such cases of wrong doing with regard to such acts in such a way that Women are not exploited in such a way and to prevent Women (including Transgender Women who've identified themselves and their gender as Women) from meeting such ends seeing as the occurrence of such crimes are more likely to find Women victims much more often than Men. Our investigative capacities and law encorcement capabilities should reflect that difference and ensure that such information or intel related to such activities immediately is taken into consideration or evaluation as per standard operations by law enforcement.

As in my Canadian books A Lady's Prerogative and The Butterfly Dragon I: Heroes Of Our Own both of which have characters of Canadian origins and of a wide variety of origins and cultures, I would like to see a society where Women and Men are equals and work together as a team, regardless of sexual orientation or culture and for all Women to feel safe to this end.

Canada is a world leader in that aspect having been amongst the first fivecountries in the world that ratified the Women's vote in 1918 (following the suit of Manitoba's Provincial Women's vote) and as the fifth country in

the world to have the Women's vote. That's only 25 years behind the first country to who brought about the first Women's vote in 1893 (the vote occurred in 1894). Let's hope that we are a World leader in Women's rights in the future as we are and have been in the past.

Sincerely,

Brian Joseph Johns

In honour of International Women's Day

A few years prior I received this reply from the Office Of The Right Honourable Stephen Harper with regard to the same issue

Dear Mr. Johns:

I would like to acknowledge receipt of your e-mail addressed to the Prime Minister regarding the prevention of violence against Indigenous women.

You may be assured that your comments have been given careful consideration. As they will also be of interest to the Honourable Robert Nicholson, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, and the Honourable John Duncan, Minister of Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development, I have taken the liberty of forwarding copies of your message to them. I am certain that the Ministers will give your views every consideration.

Thank you for taking the time to share your views with the Prime Minister on this important issue.

Dear Prime Minister Harper,

I am a citizen whose concern for the fair treatment of Aboriginal women is as important as the treatment of all women.

We as a nation do not tolerate violence against and the exploitation of women, yet why is this not the case for Aboriginal women within Canada. To allow them harm is to harm ourselves.

Truly,

Brian Joseph Johns

So in both cases I received a prompt reply with regard to the issue and thankfully recently the RCMP appointed an investigative task force to look into the deaths of Aboriginal Women. This was largely the result of many concerned citizens who'd expressed concern in regard to this issue and those in office who acted upon it.

So my books are more than just words as are most books. Writing can be the diagnosis of social symptoms of some much bigger problem, or it can be a social mirror that is much needed in society. A point from where to step back and take a deeper look into experiences that allow us to explore without risk to our health the road ahead through prose and allegory. I say these words with truth and without any sort of reversed meaning as is common nowadays by some. I'm not on the hate means love team and never will be. I've always lived by the words say what you mean and mean what you say.

So I'll continue with my efforts with my books at some point in the future after the problem of this abusive cult has been dealt with and exposed.

New updated poster for The Lost And The Found...

You know what that means.

It means new chapters and a finish to the story. Soon. Just in time to bridge the story between A Lady's Prerogative I and II (which should be available by Halloween if all goes as planned and things don't always go that way). The Lost And The Found also bridges the events that start in The Butterfly Dragon II: Dragon Butterfly so this story is a real link in many ways. The Butterfly Dragon II: Dragon Butterfly will be available in spring of 2017.

So here's the post for the Lost And The Found with new cast members and designs for the major characters.

Enjoy!

Brian Joseph Johns

The cast from left to right are:

Alicia Westin (aka Night Style), Nelony Ardbloem (of the Order Of The Aerth Mother), Jasmer McCavanaugh (of The Order Of The New), Yirfir Lacharme (of The Order Of The New), Valerie Aspen (aka Valkyra), Athandra Rithyani (of The Order of Ghanesh), Barris Windsor (of Shepperton off the Thames, Great Britain), Mila Rendebelle (of The Order Of Aetherial Artistry), Heylyn Yates (aka Ai Yuanlin Ying aka The Butterfly Dragon), Mishima Sato (most honorable Sensei of Bujutsu), Shaela Sheowellyn (of The Order Of The Night Wytch) and Monique Defleur (aka The <Strawberry> Eclipse now just The Eclipse). The image of the lady in the background caressing the world in her arms is known as the Aerth Mother. It is said that the milky way in the sky is the strands of her hair enveloping the Aerth protectively while she holds it in her arms.

There are many more characters and designs to come...
